Just south of Squamish, Shannon Creek cascades down from the mountains above to the ocean below, creating the picturesque waterfalls pictured at right. In addition to being a popular addition to most tourists photo albums, the fantastic slabs beside the falls offer some excellent climbs. Access 5km north of Murrin park and 1km south of The Chief proper, pull into the parking lot of the park, below the 300 metre falls of Shannon Creek. Follow the trail towards the base of the falls, then cross the creek and head up a trail to the cliffs. The other cliff in the area, the Papoose, can be reached by walking bit down the highway to the south then heading up towards the cliff. The Climbs Most of the climbs at Shannon Falls are on the fantastic slabs to the south of the falls. The classics include the steep slab of Local Boys Do Good and the imacculate Klahanie Crack. At the far south end of the cliff, the Gobsmacking Wall offers some steeper, more featured climbing. The cliffs at Shannon Falls have some of the area's highest density of 3 star routes in the 5.11 range, yet see relatively few ascents. Every few winters, Shannon Falls freezes and creates some much coveted ice climbing.
